NO: 28 NOV 88 Gigantinho Gym - Porto Alegre, Brazil

Sound is ok, but the band seems distant (physically), with lots of audience noise.

Not much stereo seperation. Each track has a fade-out.

Some throbbing house track takes up the first minute and a half of this recording.

Brazillian-accented voice: "Get ready for the show, man."

Announcer: "Thank you...New Order!"

_Touched___By___The___Hand___Of___God_

BS: "Thank you!"

Track fades out. They all do, so I won't bother noting this for future tracks.

_True___Faith_

BS: "This is True Faith."

(and at the end)

BS: "Thank you. Obrigado." (thanks to Emok for the assist)

_Subculture_

Lots of cheering greets Subculture for some reason. :) There's a cut about 4:15 in.

_Loveless_

Some strumming and tuning before the Order make the live debut of this gem.

BS: "Thank you."

_Mr___Disco_

BS: "Here's another new song, it's called Mr. Disco."

This version has the same samples that appear in other live versions of this song (which aren't on Technique).

_Every___Little___Counts_

This gets a rousing response, people clap along.

BS: "Thank you."

NO than run through BLT, BM, Age Of Consent, and Temptation, for which Barney says "uno, dos, tres, quatro".

_The___Perfect___Kiss_

BS: "Thank you. This is the last song, it's called The Perfect Kiss."

_Ceremony_

PH: "And you can't guess...fucking, oh that's quiet(?)."

NO: 17 DEC 88 Manchester Exhibition Center (G-MEX) - Manchester

Melody Maker 7 Jan 89
Review by Paul Lester

NOTES

I wonder if Alan Wise (he of the Manchester Apollo spiel) wase the compere here as well, as NO were apparently introduced as Joy Division. Indeed he was.

Review is almost embarrassing in its praise. Figures as Paul Lester is (was?) a huge fan of Joy Division / New Order, and his brother took his life in the early eighties to what amounts to be a tragic emulation of his singing idol.

Writeup from multiple versions of this performance, from UKBT as well as New Order Audio Anthologies part 9 (NOAA9). But the best is the Lazlo tape shared by davemings with the whistling out front and the lass saying "You're not peeing on me" or something equally incomprehensible. Another source has shown up recently, this taken from an Alex Dart 'Camden special' tape, which sounds recorded a bit more close up than UKBTs.

_Alan___Wise___Intro_

AW: "One one-ah one-ha...I got what you're all waiting for. One girl, three boys. They've come all the way to give their all to you. Welcome, if you will, Joy Division!"

Lots of audience participation in this one.

_Touched___By___The___Hand___Of___God_

On the Lazlo tape cries of "Gillian" (obvious who this is for) and "Wanker" (probably directed at Alan)

BS: "Hi, everyone. Happy New Year!"

BS: "Thank you very much.

Guitar squall.

_Ceremony_

PH: "How you doing? Looking a bit pumped(?) up in the front. Sure this will sort you out."

Lots of singalongs.

At 0:35-0:43 of the Lazlo source the volume drops and the taper comments he's getting crushed.

BS: "'k you!"

BS: "Thank you very much indeed. I can't be any more polite than that."

_True___Faith_ follows.

Someone calls out for 'Everything's Gone Green'.

BS: "Thank you, we're going to attempt a new song now, off, eh, the new album. It's called _Vanishing___Point_."

(at end)

BS: "Thank you very much indeed."

Someone calls out for 'Face Up'.

BS: "Right, that's a new song, we're gonna play an old one now, just for you."

That song is _Every___Little___Counts_

(at end)

PH: "Yeah, that's why I like Manchester, they throws pounds at you, fucking hell."

BS: "All right, we're gonna play another new one now, it's called _Dream___Attack_. Don't worry, we'll play all our old ones at the end. And next time we play it, this will be an old one, so you'll like it."

Extended guitar solo on this one.

At the end, the Lazlo version has (you guessed it!) "This is... a Lazlo production."

A bit of Bernard's guitar riffing in between songs.

_Subculture_ follows, with an edit between this and the next track, _Bizarre___Love___Triangle_.

BS: "Stop blowing that horn, please."

Another edit on the UKBT, obscuring what Barney says, and missing out on _Age___Of___Consent_ completely. NOAA9 is missing the first couple of minutes of this song, but the Lazlo version along with the Alex Dart tape has it.

BS: "Thank you, we're gonna play some hot-ass rock n' roll now, if you get my drift now."

_Temptation_

BS: "Thank you, thank you, getting into it now."

At this point somebody annoyingly blows one of those air horns you can hear throught this performance.

BS: "Shut up with that."

UKBT source tape overloads at points.

The Lazlo version has a cut here which is missing the first portion.

BS: "Thank you." As Hooky solos an outro...and Barney strums a bit.

_The___Perfect___Kiss_

BS: "What's the sound like? is it alright?".

More overloading on source tape of UKBT version.

Funeral for a Viking is played between the main set and the encore. Can be heard on all audience recordings.

_Fine___Time_

BS: "'Q. I believe, eh, that we got a fifty-fifty chance of our sequencers working on this song, so please, you know, be nice to us. We do our best, we do our best. Go for it, Gillian, go for it! One, two, three, four. [nothing, except Barney's guitar, the song doesn't start up] Fucking hell. See what God's pulling[?]."

BS: (during the intro) "Charlie!"

Unique version with Bernard's rap in the middle! Also features what has to be a melodica at one point. And a pleasant little grunt after the vocodered 'You got love technique..."

Also overloaded in parts here.

BS: "Thank you, good night!" Hooky thwacks his bass and it feeds back for quite a while.
